RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Union University claimed a 5-3 CIAA women's tennis decision over Bowie State University at Battery Park. The loss dropped the Lady Bulldogs overall record to 6-8 and 5-8 in the conference.

Bowie State juniors Iyabode Sodipo (Baltimore, Md.) and Brianna Burke (Boston, Mass.) lost 8-0 at No. 1 and No. 3 Singles respectively. Lady Bulldogs' senior Kassandra Bishop (Spencerville, Md.) defeated Ernisa McClendon 8-3 at No. 4 Singles for BSU's first win of the morning. Virginia Union's Deja Shabazz handed Bowie State freshman Mieke Allen (Laurel, Md.) an 8-1 setback at No. 5 Singles.  The No. 3 Singles contest between BSU freshman Antonique Johnson (Laurel, Md.) and Katrina Joe was unfinished and the Lady Bulldogs won by default at No. 6 Singles.

The Bowie State No. 1 Doubles duo of Sodipo and Burke fell short by an 8-2 count. VUU's Joe and Shabazz beat the Lady Bulldogs combo of Johnson and Bishop 8-4 at No. 2 Doubles. No. 3 Doubles was awarded to Bowie State by default.
