Bowie State Women’s Tennis Sails Past Fayetteville State 9-0

RICHMOND, Va. – Bowie State University women's tennis earned their third sweep of the season after defeating Fayetteville State University 9-0 at Battery Park. The win improves the Lady Bulldogs record to 5-6 overall and 5-6 in conference play.
 
Sophomore Amber Peters (Lanham, Md.) defeated Fayetteville State's Samantha Ledbetter 6-4 and 6-2 at No. 1 Singles. Bowie State senior Iyabode Sodipo (Baltimore, Md.) claimed victory at No. 2 Singles beating Selena Cox 6-1 and 7-5. Lady Bulldogs' sophomore Antonique Johnson (Laurel, Md.) cruised to a 6-1 and 6-2 win over FSU's Vanaysha Graham at No. 3 Singles.
 
The No. 4 and 5 Singles results were identical scores of 6-0 and 6-1 with BSU's Channae Manning (Lanham, Md.) and Briana Burke (Boston, Mass.) earning the win respectively.
 
Bowie State sophomore Rahwa Habtemariam (Lanham, Md.) won her No. 6 Single match defeating Fayetteville State's Farrah Richardson 6-3 and 6-1.
 
In doubles play, the Lady Bulldogs captured an 8-4 victory at No. 1 featured BSU's Peters and Johnson against Ledbetter and Cox. The Bowie State combo of Sodipo and Manning won their No. 2 Doubles match by a score of 8-6 and the Burke/Habtemariam duo sailed to an 8-2 victory at No. 3 Doubles.
 
The Lady Bulldogs return to the court on Wednesday (4/9) hosting the Lady Panthers of Virginia Union at 1 pm.
