BOWIE, Md. - The Chowan University women's tennis team topped Bowie State University 9-0 on Saturday morning in CIAA Northern Division play. The Lady Bulldogs slip to 6-7 overall and 6-6 in conference play with the setback. The Hawks improve to 17-6 on the year and remain perfect in CIAA play with a 13-0 league record.   PHOTOS
 
In doubles competition, the team of Natalya Kamenshchikova and Victoria Smolchenkova toppled junior Amber Peters (Lanham, Md.) and freshman Dainese Smothers (Washington, D.C.) 8-2 in the number one doubles position. Duos Polina Novachuk and Jessica De Backre and Jennifer Humphrey and Natalia Andrade both defeated the Lady Bulldog duos of juniors Antonique Johnson (Laurel, Md.) and Rahwa Habtemariam (Lanham, Md.) and senior Channae Manning (Lanham, Md.) and sophomore Selena Slaughter (Hyattsville, Md.) with an 8-1 score in the number two and three doubles positions, respectively.
 
In singles play, Kamenshchikova breezed through the match in the number one position defeating Peters 6-0, 6-0. At the number two position, Novachuk had a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Smothers, while Smolchenkova earned a 6-1, 6-0 win over Johnson in the number three spot. De Backre handed Manning a 6-3, 6-1 loss in the fourth spot. Andrade topped Habtemariam 6-0, 6-0 while Humphrey earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Slaughter in the sixth position.
 
The Lady Bulldogs will close out the regular season on Sunday (4/12) hosting the Virginia State University Trojans at 1 pm.
