BOWIE, Md. – Bowie State University women's tennis dropped its fourth match of the season on Saturday afternoon, falling 9-0, 9-0 to Virginia State University. The setback puts the Bulldogs record at 0-4 (0-4 CIAA) while the Trojans improve to 12-3 (8-2 CIAA).

The afternoon started with doubles play as the Bowie State duo of junior
Dainese Smothers (Washington, D.C.) and freshman
Kamari Eason (Oxon Hill, Md.) lost an 8-1 decision to Virginia State's Sydney Yao (Alexandria, Va.) and Sheila James (San Bernardino, Calif.) at No. 1 doubles. Tamisha Richardson (Anguilla, Caribbean) and Christina Washington (Norfolk, Va.) of Virginia State scored an 8-1 victory at No. 2 doubles over junior
Jocelyn Williams (Washington, D.C.) and freshman
Kionza Allen (Laurel, Md.). Due to Bowie State only have five active players, the Bulldogs had to forfeit at No. 3 doubles to the Trojans.
In No. 1 singles action, BSU's Smothers fell 8-1 to VSU's James. Virginia State's Yao and Richardson blanked Bowie State's Allen and Eason and No. 2 and No. 3 singles respectively by a score of 8-0. BSU's Williams came up short at No. 4 singles, falling 8-0 to VSU's Washington while Bowie State's Cooper was also shut out 8-0 by Tucker.
Ironically, match two singles and doubles scores were identical to the results from match one.
The Bulldogs will be back on the courts Sunday (4/2) afternoon, hosting Virginia Union University at 1 p.m.
