BOWIE, Md. - The now number 23rd ranked team in the nation, the Bowie State University Bulldogs, are preparing for Shaw University after a dominating win over the Falcons of Saint Augustine's. The Bulldogs had a record-setting performance on offense and had another solid performance by the defense in the 66-20 thrashing.
Â
This will be the conference opener for both teams this Saturday (9/23) night. The Shaw Bears enter the game with a record of 1-2, after defeating Malone University 34-27 for their first win of the year. The Bears enter with one of the top receivers in the conference in senior Trevante Long. Long was called by HBCUGamday the most complete receiver in the league.
Â
The Bulldogs have arguably the best cornerback in the conference in senior
Rahman Kamara who just picked up his first interception of the year. The Kamara and Long matchup will be a key matchup to look at in this game. The Bears also have a quarterback who made his first career start last week throwing for 317 yards in Vidal Woodruff.Â
Â
On defense, Bowie State will have to watch out for reigning CIAA Defensive Back of the Week in freshman Jaleel Scroggins who led Shaw in tackles last week with 11. The Bulldog offense is compiled a season-high 707 yards of total offense last weekend against Saint Augustine's.
Â
Saturday's game will kick-off at 6 p.m. in Bulldogs Stadium. In addition to this game being designated as Greek Appreciation Night, it has also been declared BLACKOUT night. We are asking everyone in attendance to wear black.
