Bowie State Men’s Basketball to Compete in Inaugural Harlem Renaissance Classic – “Hardwood in Harlem” Tuesday in New York

BOWIE, Md. -  On Tuesday, Nov. 23, the Bowie State men's basketball team will participate in the inaugural Harlem Renaissance Classic, "Hardwood Hoops in Harlem" competition at the Nat Holman Fieldhouse on the campus of City College of New York, 160 Convent Ave.

The Bulldogs will take on Dominican College at 5 p.m., followed by Lincoln (PA) University and Bloomfield College at 7:30 p.m. Doors will open at 4 p.m.

All fans and spectators are required to show proof of vaccination or will be tested for COVID-19 prior to entering the gymnasium.

"What makes this basketball competition unique, is that two HBCU schools, will face-off against two other colleges, not under the HBCU umbrella," said Founder of the Classic, Darryl Roberts. "As this event grows, I want to be able to do matchups between universities such as Rutgers University men's basketball team, and Lincoln University men's basketball team as an example. For the athletes participating, as well as for people in the stands, not only will it be about great basketball, it will be about bridging racial divides between students at higher education institutions."

Bowie State and Dominican will meet for the first time in program history. The Bulldogs are 0-4 on the season while the Charges are 4-0 entering Tuesday's tilt.

BSU is coming off an 88-78 setback at Wilmington (DE) Saturday. Junior Quinton Drayton paces the Bulldogs with 13.3 points per game and 4.3 rebounds per outing.

Dominican, a member of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CCA) defeated Bridgeport, 103-83 Sunday. The Chargers leading scorer is Jalen Burgess with an average of 20.3 points and 9.3 rebounds a night.

A portion of the proceeds from the Harlem Renaissance Classic will be donated to a Harlem, NY nonprofit that works to uplift youth from low-income neighborhoods in Harlem.
