BOWIE, Md. – Bowie State's Jonathan Ross headlines the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) All-America Football Teams earning the Super Region Two Defensive Player of the Year award as the Bulldogs capture five All Super Region Two selections announced Thursday morning.
Ross helped nationally ranked Bowie State to its third straight Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) championship, a third-straight CIAA Northern Division title, and two NCAA DII playoffs wins for the first time in program history. The First Team All-CIAA honoree leads the No. 10 Bowie State Bulldogs in tackles with 76 (40 solo), 26.0 tackle for losses (103-yards), nine sacks (leads team) for 53-yards, eight QB hurries, six forced fumbles and a break up.
As one of the anchors of the defense, the Bulldogs lead the nation with eight defensive touchdowns, third down conversion percentage defense (.240), second in fumbles recovered (19), third in turnovers gained (33), fifth in total defense (3.73 yards per play) and dropped to 10th in total team sacks (46).
The CIAA as a whole had a total of nine student-athletes earn recognition while Bowie State garnered a total of five including three First Team recipients and two Second Team honorees – third best amongst team's with the most selections behind Valdosta State (13) and West Florida (7).
Senior offensive lineman and All-CIAA Quinton Bobo (White Plains, MD), graduate senior and linebacker Wesley Bowers (Fort Washington, MD) joined Ross on the Super Region Two First Team. Senior running back Calil Wilkins (Temple Hills, MD), who's also a Harlon Hill Trophy national finalist and defensive back and graduate senior Myles Wolfolk (Largo, MD) tabbed Second Team All-Super Region Two.
The Division II Conference Commissioners Association encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
