BOWIE, Md. – Bowie State football received three first place votes behind Division I and FCS members Jackson State (7) and South Carolina State (8) as the Bulldogs earned a fourth place ranking in the BOXTOROW HBCU Preseason Media Poll.
Jackson State received seven first place votes and was selected first overall while the Celebration Bowl champion South Carolina State outpaced everyone with eight first place votes for a second place ranking. Florida A&M tabbed third while SIAC champion Albany State ranked fifth behind the Bulldogs to round out the top-5 rankings.
Alabama A&M, Prairie View A&M and Alcorn State were selected sixth, seventh and eighth while Southern and North Carolina A&T whom did not finish in the top-10 of the final 2021 BOXTOROW HBCU Media Poll tabbed ninth and 10
th, respectively.
Bowie State will open the 2022 season on Saturday, Sept. 3 when playing host to New Haven for the 50
th anniversary of the 1972 Bowie State football team. Kickoff from Bulldog Stadium is scheduled for 1 p.m.
