CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) has named Bowie State's freshman
Tristynn Kerr its Defensive Player of the Week, while freshman
Nina Edwards earned Rookie of the Week honors announced Monday afternoon.
Kerr led the Bulldogs on defense this past week with a total of 41 digs and 5 serving aces. Her best performance came in the match against Virginia State where she had 17 digs. This is the first accolade for Kerr this season.
Edwards had a spectacular outing this past week as she was instrumental in leading the Bulldogs to three important wins helping them to secure a spot in the CIAA quarterfinal. Bowie State completed a doubleheader with Lincoln (PA), winning both matches in five grueling sets. In the first match, Edwards had 11 kills for a .391 hitting percentage. The Matthews, N.C. native had five blocks and four digs. In the second match against the Lady Lions, she had five kills while in the match against Virginia State, she had 11 kills, one error on 22 attempts for a .455 hitting percentage, in addition to six blocks and two digs in the match.Â
The Bulldogs will face No. 1 Shaw in the CIAA Quarterfinals on Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. from C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium. The winner will advance to the CIAA Semifinal on Saturday, Nov. 18 and will face the winner of Fayetteville State and Bluefield State at 4:30 p.m. at Bowie State University inside A.C. Jordan Arena.
