BOWIE, MD --- Coming off a convincing win at home over Millersville Wednesday night, the Bowie State men's basketball team will travel to Washington, D.C. to take on the Firebirds of the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 12 noon from the Dr. Edwin Bancroft Henderson Sports Complex.

The Series
Bowie State and UDC will meet for the 13th time since 2010 on Saturday. The Bulldogs are 9-3 against the Firebirds and 4-2 on the road. The last time these two teams met, UDC defeated BSU in A.C. Jordan Arena on Nov. 23, 2022 by the score of 91-88.
The Last WhistleÂ
The Bulldogs (2-1) got back into the win column Wednesday, led by a 41-27 lead at halftime over Millersville.
Mark Bradshaw and
Caleb Johnson both combined for 49 of the Bulldogs 83 points in route to the 83-73 win. Johnson recorded his first double double of the season with 21 points and 11 rebounds while Bradshaw led all scorers with a season-high 28 points and four steals. Additionally,Â
Kyree Freeman-Davis chipped in 18 points off of the bench. Bowie State's offense was strong from downtown, pouring in nine threes on 19 attempts. Bradshaw hit five treys for the Bulldogs in the contest.
BSU annoyed the Marauders shots in the contest, coming away with eight blocks. Jimmy Sorunke led the way individually for the Bulldogs with three rejections. The game also featured a shooting performance of 52-percent for BSU from the field along with 47--percent from the 3-point line and 70-percent from the charity stripe. The win improved Bowie State's record to 4-1 all-time against Millersville.
Hot Guard Play
Bradshaw and Johnson have been a 1-2 punch for the Bulldogs offense through three games, both have 53 and 52 points for an average of 17.7 and 17.3 points, respectively. Bradshaw is the team's leader in shooting efficiency (51-percent), 10 made 3-pointers (43-percent) and steals (six) while Johnson is right behind Bradshaw with a total of six 3-pointers made (55-percent). He leads the team in free throws made, standing a perfect 14-for-14 and assits (14).
UDC
The Firebirds are 1-2 overall and 1-0 at home on the young season. UDC, a member of the East Coast Conference (ECC) is coming off a 90-65 win over Virginia University of Lynchburg on Nov. 15. Four Firebirds scored in the double-figures, with Tevin Curtis and Elijah Crawford scoring a game-high 15 points apiece. Hartnel Haye scored 12 points and pulled down a team-high nine nine rebounds and freshman Rejuan Gray scored 10 points. The contest also featured a shooting percentage of 45.9-percent from the field while holding the Dragons to 31.7-percent. They owned the paint with 42 points compared to their opponents 28 points and forced 29 turnovers and converting 35 points off of those turnovers.Â
Through three games, the Firebirds average 75.7 points (41-percent), shooting 28-percent from beyond the arc and a team that shoots around 66-percent from the free throw line. Defensively, the team is averaging 39 rebounds per outing. UDC was 13-14 overall and 10-6 in the ECC last season led by Mike Riley in his 10th season.
Looking Ahead
Following the Bulldogs tilt at UDC, Bowie State will remain on the road for a non-conference tilt at Shepherd on Sunday, Nov. 26 with a tip-off set for 5 p.m. Both teams are 4-4 since 2008 but the Bulldogs hope to snap a three game losing skid against the Rams on Sunday. The last outing between the two teams saw a 66-55 win for Shepherd in Bowie, Md., back on Nov. 27, 2022.
