Gentle of Bowie State Earns All-CIAA Women's Tennis Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Junior Afruica Gentle of the Bowie State women's tennis team was named to the 2023 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) All-Conference Team announced by the league office Friday morning.

The Germantown, Guyana native is 8-3 overall and 7-0 against conference opponents at the No. 1 position. In the last 10 matchups, Gentle finished 6-2 and has won her last six outings entering the tournament. In doubles, she's played mostly with sophomore Kayla Lowery who have combined for a 5-5 record and 3-3 mark in doubles at the No. 1 spot. Gentle is 8-5 in doubles play this season.

The Bulldogs enter the CIAA Tournament as the No. 5 seed and will face the No. 4 seed Winston-Salem State during the quarterfinal round on Friday at 12 noon from the Virginia State Tennis Complex in Ettrick, Va. The winner will face the victor between the defending champions as well as No. 1 seed Shaw and the No. 8 seed Elizabeth City State also on Friday.

BSU concluded the regular season on a three-match winning streak, finishing 7-7 overall record and 5-5 mark in the CIAA.
