CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Bowie State freshman Nakari Blunt has been named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) women's tennis Rookie of the Year and earned a spot on the all-conference team.
The recognition is the first CIAA Rookie of the Year honor for head coach Todd Byrom and his third all-conference selection.
A native of Suffolk, Va., Blunt competed in 10 singles matches during her freshman campaign, earning four victories while primarily playing at the No. 2 position for the Bulldogs.
In doubles play, Blunt appeared in 15 matches, mostly at the No. 2 spot teaming up with various partners. She picked up three wins alongside Verneice Herndon and one with Tamia Byrom, finishing the season with a total of eight combined victories in singles and doubles competition.
