Bowie State Hoops Set to Duel Shippensburg Sunday Afternoon

BOWIE, MD—The Bowie State men's basketball team travels into the valley of Pennsylvania to face off against Division II opponent Shippensburg University in Shippensburg, Pa., on Sunday, December 1 inside of Heiges Field House.  
 
 

This matchup will be streamed live on the PSAC Sports Network.

The Series  
• In their last meeting, Bowie State defeated Shippensburg 70-69 in Bowie, Md.  
 
• This will be the Bulldogs' third time playing the Raiders at Heiges Field House.   

Scouting Bowie State 
 
Bowie State (4-4), throughout the first half of the season, is a team known for sharing the basketball and protecting the paint. The Bulldogs are ranked second in the Central Intercollegiate Athletics Association (CIAA) in blocks per game, averaging 4.9. BSU is also ranked fourth in the conference in assists per game, with 15.1 on the season. Bowie State is led by Amare Wimbush, who averages 14.7 ppg and also leads the team in rebounds with 5.3 per game. Elijah Davis is the team's facilitator, averaging 3.4 assists per game. 


Last Time Out for the Bulldogs 
 
The Bulldogs never surrendered the lead against Shepherd University in Wednesday night's victory, 62-56, inside A.C. Jordan Arena. BSU was led offensively by Kevon Corley, who tallied 13 points, four rebounds, and one assist coming off the bench. Warren Mouganda was the other Bulldog who scored in double figures, tallying 11 points, three rebounds, and two assists. The Bulldogs dominated down low, scoring 30 points inside the paint on their way to the victory. 
 
 

Scouting Shippensburg 
 
Shippensburg (2-4) plays in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) under head coach Chris Fite. The Raiders are one of the best defensive teams in their conference, holding opponents to a 41.3 field goal percentage. Shippensburg is led offensively by Markus Frank, who is second in the PSAC in points per game with 22.5 on the season. Donovan Hill is averaging a double-double on the season while being second in the PSAC in rebounds per game with 11.8 per game, alongside scoring 10.7 ppg.  

Last Time Out for the Raiders 
 
The Raiders enter Sunday's contest after falling to Indiana University of Pennsylvania, 72-57 on Nov. 24, inside of Kovalchick Convention & Athletic Complex in Indiana, Pa. Shippensburg had four players score in double figures with Frank tallying 11 points and seven rebounds. Jaydon Smith and Jalen Bowie also tallied 11 points coming off the bench. Lastly, Trey Martin tallied 10 points and four rebounds.  Bowie State will be the only CIAA program Shippensburg will face this season. 

Up Next  
 
Bowie State will return home for a non-conference matchup against the University of the District of Columbia on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 7 p.m. inside A.C. Jordan Arena. The Bulldogs are 9-4 all-time against the Firebirds.
