BOWIE, MD --- Bowie State's standout
Yassine Kamara of the women's outdoor track and field team earned a spot at the 2024 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships announced last week. The standout and Hyattsville, Md., native will compete in the women's dicus at Francis G. Welch Stadium in Emporia, Kansas on Thursday, May 23 through Saturday, May 25.
Kamara, won the discus throw at the 2024 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Outdoor Track and Field Championships earlier this month. She tossed a mark of 45.76m for the first place finish, marking her second consecutive time claiming the title in the discus. Currently, Kamara holds the best mark for the DII in the discus (47.72m)Â amongst the Atlantic Region for outdoor.
The last time BSU track and field sent an athlete to the NCAA DII track and field championship was Davon Carroll in 2019 for the indoor track and field championship for the 60m dash. As for the last time Bowie State sent an athlete to nationals in discus on the women's side was Lakisha Carney in 2010.
