Bowie State Welcomes Davenport for Home Opener

BOWIE, MD – Bowie State (0-1) welcomes the Davenport Panthers (1-0) for their home opener on Saturday, Sept. 14. at Bulldog Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m and the game will air live on the Bulldog Sports Network.

Clear Bag Policy
Fans will only be able to carry the following style and size bag into the stadium all of which are subject to search.
• Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC and do not exceed 12" x 6" x 12"
• One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar)
• Small clutch bags, measuring 4.5" x 6.5" with or without a handle or strap
• All other bags will not be permitted. A list of prohibited bags includes but is not limited to: purses, backpacks, drawstring bags that are not clear, briefcases, coolers, fanny packs, luggage, computer bags, camera bags, binocular cases, and diaper bags. Guests are encouraged to return unauthorized items to their vehicles. Bowie State University cannot safeguard items that are not permitted into the stadium. 

How to Watch
Saturday's game will be televised live on the Bulldog Sports Network with Chris Davis (play-by-play) and Jayden Clyne (analyst) on the action. Fans can also log on to BSUBulldogs.com and click "Gameday Central" which will prompt viewers to the Bulldogs Sports Network. Live stats will also be available under "Gameday Central" for all home football contests.

 Gameday Promotion
Fans are encouraged to wear Black for the 2024 home opener against the Davenport Panthers.  This is a celebration of back to school and a kickoff event for the community. Bowie State will also recognize 2024 Sports Hall of Fame inductees at halftime.

The Series
Saturday's game will be the second meeting between the two teams. BSU is 0-1 against the Panthers after losing 24-19 on Sept. 9, 2023, in Caledonia, MI. Davenport never trailed in the game after jumping out to a 10-0 lead in the second quarter. BSU turned it on in the second half outscoring DU 13-7 but ultimately fell short at the end.

Last Time Out
The Bulldogs opened the 2024 season on the road with a 32-19 loss against nationally ranked Lenior-Rhyne. The game remained scoreless through the first quarter until LR scored its two touchdowns and a safety to jump out to a 16-0 lead. BSU cut the deficit to 16-6 before halftime. Lenior-Rhyne doubled their total in the third quarter jumping out to a 32-6 lead before Bowie State scored its first offensive touchdown making the score 32-12. The Bulldogs kept fighting scoring a touchdown in the fourth quarter to close out the game.

Sophomore Kevin Taylor took the most snaps under center completing eight passes for 92 yards and a touchdown on the day. Redshirt senior Curtis Murray powered the running game rushing for 79 yards and a touchdown on six carries. The defense was headlined by redshirt senior Sadiq Sawalu who led the Bulldogs with 15 tackles while redshirt junior Jordan Williams pitched in with nine tackles with one tackle for loss. Redshirt junior Samuel Graham also showed off BSU's explosive secondary returning an interception for a touchdown.

Scouting Davenport
The Davenport Panthers opened their 2024 season on the road against Thomas More where they came out on top with a 24-17 victory in Crestview Hills, KY on Sept 7. The Panthers never once looked back scoring 14 unanswered points in the first quarter. They went on to extend their lead to 21-14 by the end of the third quarter before securing the win. Newly acquired Quarterback Mike O'Haro threw for 108 yards and had two total touchdowns on the day while the redshirt senior Myren Harris, powered the Panthers' ground game rushing for 111 yards on 22 carries.

Bowie State will remain home as they enter Central Intercollegiate Athletics Association play when Livingstone College comes into town on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 4 p.m. from Bulldog Stadium in Bowie, MD.
