BOWIE, MD -- The Bowie State men's basketball team travels to the "Old Dominion" for a Central Intercollegiate Athletics Association (CIAA) matchup against Virginia State University on Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 7:30 p.m. inside VSU Multipurpose Center. This will be the nightcap game of a doubleheader featuring the women's game beginning at 5:30 p.m.
The doubleheader will be streamed live on the CIAA Sports Network.

Scouting Bowie State
Bowie State (10-10, 2-6 CIAA, 1-2 North) secured its first Northern Division win in their last matchup against Elizabeth City State to close out the month of January. BSU is a team known for playing in the passing lanes and protecting the paint. The Bulldogs are ranked second in the CIAA in blocks per game (4.7) while being ranked fourth in steals per game (9.35). BSU also shares the ball well, as they are ranked fourth in the conference in assists per game (13.85). Bowie State's leading scorer and rebounder is Amare Wimbush, who averages 11.4 ppg and 5.9 rebounds. Elijah Davis' 4.6 assists per game is ranked third in the CIAA. Davis also is ranked second in the conference in steals per game (2.4).
Last Time Out for the Bulldogs
The Bulldogs won a double overtime thriller in their last matchup at home against ECSU, 89-85, inside A.C. Jordan Arena Saturday night. Wimbush dominated off the bench, tallying a double-double, scoring 23 points, 12 rebounds, and two blocks. Warren Mouganda bounced back, scoring 19 points, three rebounds, and two assists. The Bulldogs scored most of their points inside of the paint, scoring 42 points in the painted area. BSU also received a major boost from the second unit, receiving 42 points compared to ECSU's nine bench points. Bowie State also capitalized on fastbreak opportunities, tallying 20 points in transition.
Scouting Virginia State
Virginia State (12-6, 7-2 CIAA, 1-2 North) is currently on a two-game losing streak entering Wednesday's contest. The Trojans are one of the many high-powered offenses in the CIAA, averaging 78.8 ppg, ranking them fourth in the conference. Virginia State's defense holds opponents to shooting 40.6 percent from the field, ranking second in the conference. VSU crashes the glass well, as they are ranked third in the CIAA, hauling in 37.5 rebounds per game. The Trojans are led by Jacob Cooper, who averages 14.3 ppg, and his 6.3 assists per game leads the CIAA. Clint Wright Jr. is second on the team in scoring, averaging 11.9 ppg and 2.3 rebounds.
Last Time Out for the Trojans
The Trojans dropped a close matchup against the Lions of Lincoln (PA) University, 70-65, Saturday night inside Manuel Rivero Hall, in Lincoln, Pa. Cooper shined despite the loss, scoring 20 points shooting 8-13 from the field. Cooper also tallied six assists and three rebounds. Wright Jr. was the other VSU player who scored in double-figures, tallying 13 points, three assists, and two rebounds. Virginia State scored 19 points off turnovers compared to the Lions' 11 points. The Trojans scored 32 points in the paint while receiving 24 bench points.

Bowie State will return home to face CIAA opponent Bluefield State on Saturday, Feb. 1, at 4 p.m. inside A.C. Jordan Arena in Bowie, Md. This game will be the 50th Anniversary of Women's Basketball in the CIAA, as well as Alumni Appreciation Day.
