BOWIE, MD – The Bowie State University cycling team proudly participated in the 6th Annual Purple Bike Ride on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2025, an event organized by the Office of Prince George's County Executive Aisha Braveboy in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

The annual ride aims to raise awareness, support survivors, and promote prevention, healing, and community unity. Riders from across the region joined together for a day of purpose and connection.

"Domestic violence doesn't discriminate … it affects individuals and families from every background, every neighborhood, every walk of life," said County Executive Braveboy. "Together, we can stand against it, speak out, and break the cycle."

The Purple Bike Ride offered 3-mile, 10-mile, and 30-mile escorted routes for families, local leaders, and advocates. The BSU Cycling Team completed both the 10-mile and 30-mile courses, representing the university's dedication to civic engagement and social responsibility.

Special recognition goes to Tristan Kwabena Mathieu, who completed his first ride of the season in support of this important cause.

Being part of the Purple Bike Ride was an incredible experience," said Tristan Kwabena Mathieu. "It was inspiring to see so many riders come together to raise awareness about domestic violence and show support for survivors. The energy, teamwork, and shared purpose made the ride both meaningful and fun. It's powerful to know that every mile we rode helped spread hope and awareness in our community."

The event also featured vendors, food trucks, live entertainment, and family-friendly activities, reinforcing its mission of inclusivity and community-building.

"As student-athletes, we recognize our platform and responsibility to make a difference," said Team Captain Azyra Franklin. "Participating in the Purple Bike Ride allows us to use our passion for cycling to stand in solidarity with survivors and contribute to an important cause."
