CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Bowie State women's track and field senior
Yassine Kamara has been named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Women's Field Athlete of the Year, capping off a stellar season in which she earned three CIAA Women's Field Athlete of the Week honors and four first place finishes in the shot-put event this season.
Kamara's dominance was on full display at the Marlin Invitational (Jan. 31) in Virginia Beach, registering a personal-best throw of 14.62 meters for first place and a No. 12 ranking in Division II. This performance followed an impressive showing at the Widener Winter's Evening Invite (Jan. 24-25), where she took first place with a throw of 13.56 meters.
The Hyattsville, Md., native made a strong statement at the HBCU Showcase Sponsored by KPMG (Jan. 18), finishing third with a throw of 14.35 meters. She would open this year's indoor season at the VMI Team Challenge (Jan. 11), where she dominated the competition with a winning throw of 13.57 meters.
Kamara along with counterpart Lorenzo Pellham will be representing Bowie State at this year's NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships on Mar. 13-15 at Fall Creek Pavilion at Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis, IN.
