ETTRICK, VA — Bowie State's men's and women's track and field teams turned in multiple podium performances at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Outdoor Track and Field Championships, with the men placing fifth overall and the women finishing eighth after a weekend of finals competition.
On the men's side, Bowie State was powered by a dominant sprint showing from
Dareon Faircloth and
Marlin Newsome, Jr. Faircloth captured the 100-meter title in 10.44 seconds, while Newsome placed fifth in 10.62 to add key team points. The duo returned in the 200 meters, where Newsome surged to a conference title with a time of 21.03, and Faircloth added a fourth-place finish in 21.25.
The Bulldogs also claimed gold in the 4x100-meter relay, as the team of
Kojo Cunningham, Newsome,
Jaiden Jarrett and Faircloth clocked a winning time of 40.69.
In the field,
Jaeden Warner delivered a standout performance, winning the shot put with a throw of 16.76 meters while also placing third in the discus (49.58m).
Princewil Osahon added a fourth-place finish in the high jump (1.94m), and Warner's efforts helped anchor a strong showing in the throws.
Additional scoring came from the men's 4x400-meter relay team, which placed eighth in 3:25.93.
For the women, the electrifying
Sidney Richardson led the way on the track, placing fourth in the 100 meters with a personal-best time of 12.01. Richardson also ran a leg on the 4x100-meter relay team that finished fourth in 48.00.
In the field events, BSU saw multiple top-five finishes.
Breanna Reid placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 39.12 meters, while
Jazmyne McGirt finished fifth in the shot put (12.32m).
Rebecca Bogy contributed a pair of fifth-place finishes in the horizontal jumps, recording marks of 5.57 meters in the long jump and 11.38 meters in the triple jump.
On the track,
Emetem Bezezuh added points with a seventh-place finish in the 800 meters (2:21.28) and later ran on the women's 4x400-meter relay team, which placed sixth in 4:01.22.
Bowie State closed out the championships with a collection of top-five finishes and individual titles, highlighting a strong competitive showing on both the track and in the field.
