(BOWIE, Md.) Bowie State's
Duke Crews (Hampton, VA, Bethel, Univ. of Tennessee) recorded his fifth double-double of the season (15 points and 14 rebounds), but it was a 3-point bucket by Chris Jordan of Saint Augustine's with 15 seconds left that sank Bowie State 61-59.
Jordan's game-winning shot capped a 20-6 run by the Falcons (15-6 overall, 8-4 CIAA), who trailed 53-41 with 6:54 minutes remaining. Jordan scored nine points on three-pointers and Steven Brignol added eight points including a powerful one-handed dunk over a Bowie State player during the spurt which decided the outcome.
Both teams shot poorly in the first half with Bowie State shooting at a 29.6 percent clip (eight-of-27) and Saint Augustine's hitting at 30.0 percent (nine-of-30).
Jordan led the Falcons with 24 points on 9-for-13 shooting including 6-of-10 three-pointers. He helped the Falcons shoot 11-for-27 from behind the three-point arc for 41 percent. Overall, the Falcons shot 39 percent from the floor for the game.
Will Gill added 13 points, eight in the second half and Hayward Fain along Brignol scored nine and eight
points, respectively for Saint Augustine's.
Other double figure scorers for Bowie State (10-9, 7-5 CIAA) include
Armond Hill (Silver Spring, MD, Springbrook, Montgomery - Rockville C.C.) with 12 points and
Charles Richardson (Suitland, MD, Suitland, Montgomery - Takoma Park C.C.) added 11 points for the Bulldogs, who outrebounded the Falcons 41-35 but shot 35 percent from the floor.
Bowie State will play host to Fayetteville State – Saturday, January 31st at 7:30 p.m.
