Bowie State Cross Country Places 8th and 9th at Navy’s Salty Dog Invitational

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Led by sophomores Faith Sykes (Richmond, Va.) and Rhema Ndjami (Hyattsville, Md.) the Bowie State women and men placed 8th and 9th respectively at the Navy Salty Dog Cross Country Invitational on Saturday. RESULTS

Sykes placed 48th overall to lead the Lady Bulldogs with a time of 31:03.13 followed by freshman Kayla Watson (Bel Air, MD.) in 49th with a time of 31:04.72.

Sophomore Rayshawn Penn (Richmond, Va.) finished 50th (31:42.90) and freshman Leia Conrad (Washington, D.C.) placed 51st (34:16.50). Junior Crishonda Coffey (Richmond, Va.) rounded out the scorers for the Lady Bulldogs with a 52nd place finish with a time of 37:32.14. Junior Kendall Reynolds (Lompoc, Calif.) also competed, finishing 53rd with a time of 37:51.42.

Navy placed first overall in team rankings with 38 points followed by the University of Maryland in second with 49 points and American University rounded out the top three with 59 points in the 6K event.

Ndjami is always the leader of the Bulldogs cross country team, crossing the 8K course finish line with a time of 27:10.19. Freshman Vernon Swanson (Capital Heights, Md.) was the next Bowie State runner to cross the finish line, placing 72nd at 32:40.29.

Sophomore Daniel Ballah (Bowie, Md.) and freshman Xavier Thomas (Carroll County, Md.) completed the Bulldog competitors, finishing 73rd and 75th with times of 34:31.72 and 37:22.22 respectively.

Georgetown University claimed first overall for the men (26 points), followed by Navy (37 points), American (83 points), the University of Maryland Baltimore County (91 points) and Howard University (183 points) rounded out the top five.

Bowie State will be back in action again on Friday (September 20th) to compete in the Towson University Invitational. The meet will be run at Oregon Ridge Park and is scheduled for 11 am.
