PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Competing for the first time in two weeks, the Bowie State University women and men's track & field team turned in some outstanding efforts at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Nelson Townsend Invitational on Saturday (2/7).Â

Carissa Smith was the top finisher for the Lady Bulldogs, placing 4th in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.34.
Shahirah Johnson was a top five finisher for the women, placing 5th in the weight throw (11.71m).

Kayla Watson,
Phyllicia Ennis and
Alicia Grant placed 6th in their respective events. Watson competed in the long jump (5.43m), Ennis in the shot put (11.18m) and Grant in the weight throw (7.28m).

Ayanna Tweedy and Savannah Kinlock competed in the shot put and finished 8th and 9th with throws of 10.99m and 9.20m respectively.

Samantha Ferguson was Bowie State's only participant in the mile run and came away with an 8th place finish (5:54.71).

Rayshawn Penn placed 10th in the women's 200 meter, crossing the finish line with a time of 27.59 to round out the Lady Bulldogs' top 10 finishers.

In the men's division,
Rhema Ndjami was BSU's top individual finisher, placing 3rd in the mile run with a time of 4:31.46. The Bowie State trio of
Ryan Washington,
Wendall Brown and Cullen Mosley also competed in the mile run, finishing 8th, 9th and 10th with recorded times of 4:54.96, 5:00.08 and 5:09.09 respectively.

Kadeem Bailey finished in 3rd place in the shot put (12.69m) and teammate
Lamar Baker was 5th in the same event with a throw of 7.55m.

Kevin Johnson finished 4th in the triple jump (12.96m) while
Tony Doublin placed 5th in the long jump (1.70m).
Bruce Tyler rounded out the Bulldogs' top five finishers placing 5th in the 60 meter with a time of 7.19.

Michael Aregay was a competitor in the 3000 meter run and placed 6th with a time of 10:16.27.

Bowie State had three top 10 finishers in the long jump with Vidal Adams and
Kevin Johnson placing 7th and 8th with exact jumps of 6.37m while Bailey placed 10th (5.82m).

Vernon Swanson claimed 8th place in the 800 meter, crossing the finish line with a time of 2:04.36 and Fabian Gonzales finished 10th in the 400 meter with a time of 51.61.

The men's 4x400 meter relay "A" team consisting of
Bruce Tyler,
Lamar Opher,
DeAndre Watson and Gonzales finished in second place, clocking in with a time of 3:53.74.

The Lady Bulldogs and Bulldogs return to competition on Saturday (February 14th), participating in the CIAA Indoor Championships at the JDL Fast Track Facility in Winston-Salem, N.C.
