SPARKILL, N.Y. – Bowie State University men and women's track and field teams placed 13th and 18th respectively at the Spartan Regional Invite hosted by St. Thomas Aquinas College on Friday, January 15th at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
The participating teams included Adelphi, American International, Assumption, Bowie State, Delaware State, District of Columbia, Franklin Pierce, Georgian Court, Holy Family, Ithaca, Lafayette, LIU Post, Loyola (Md.), Manhattan, Marist, Merrimack, Molloy, New Haven, Queens (N.Y.), Rider, Southern Connecticut State and St. Thomas Aquinas.
The Bulldogs men's team had four individual top five performances and a third place finish in the 4 x 200 Relay.
Lamar Baker placed 4th in the 60 meter finals (7.12) and Robert Thomas placed 3rd in the 800 meter run (1:58.73). Jarius Coates placed 5th overall in the long jump (6.49m) and in the triple jump (13.90m) while
Terez Beauford placed 5th in the weight throw 13.90m.
Bowie State's 4 x 200 relay team of Thomas, Vidal Adams,
Travis Scarborough and Amandji Goito finished in 3rd place with a time of 1:32.05.
The men's top five finishing teams include Rider (209 points), Manhattan (155 points), American International (95 points), Delaware State (81 points) and Ithaca (78 points). Bowie State's men earned 39 total points for a 13th place finish out of 19 teams.
Alexis Conyers led the Bowie State Lady Bulldogs track and field team, placing first in the shot put with a heave of 12.10m. The Lady Bulldogs 4 x 200 relay team consisting of
Nia Walker, Briana Wilson,
Jori Cook and
Chelsea Harris finished in 5th place, crossing the finish line with a time of 1:48.27. Harris also had an individual 7th place finish in the high jump, going over the bar at 1.50m.
Jaelyn Belt finished 8th in the shot put (10.62m) while
Kayla Tucker placed 9th in the 400 meter with a time of 1:00.66.
Rider also placed first overall on the women's side (179 points), followed by Manhattan (124 points), Ithaca (111.5 points), Marist (82 points) and Delaware State rounded out the top five with 81 points. The Bowie State Lady Bulldogs placed 18th overall (17.5 points) out of 20 teams.
Bowie State's women and men return to competition on Saturday (January 30th) at University of Maryland Terrapin Invitational. The event will take place at the Wayne Curry Sports and Learning Center in Landover (Md.) and will get underway at 9 a.m.
