SALEM, Va. – The Bowie State University men's cross country team placed eighth at the CIAA Cross Country Championships on Thursday at Green Hill Park, finishing with 170 points to end the season.
Virginia Union University edged defending CIAA Champion Virginia State University to capture the 2019 CIAA Men's Cross Country title. The remaining order of finish included Lincoln (111), Shaw (130), Claflin (189), Livingstone (194), Fayetteville State (196), Winston-Salem State (210) and Johnson C. Smith (320).

"This team opened up its season with tremendous expectations and looked pretty good then we changed," said head coach
Michelle Latimer. "Our team consisted of five freshmen, a junior and a senior".
Bowie State's top freshman
Frederick Eiland II placed seventh in 28:12.5, while running mate
Shane Massey claimed ninth in 28:21.9.
Freshman Donte Buesy finished 32nd with a time of 30:59.7, while fellow freshmen
Jalen Sykes (35:34.6), Shawn Dyson (38:45.3),
Miles Johnson (38:51.2) placed 56th, 66th and 67th respectively and junior Frank Bailey finished 69th overall, crossing the finish line at 41:58.
