Davon Carroll Competed in NCAA Indoor Track and Field

PITTSBURG, Kansas – Bowie State University freshman Davon Carroll was the lone competitor in NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships held in Pittsburg, Kansas at the Robert W. Plaster Center.

Carroll first competed in the men's 60-meter dash and the first-year runner placed 15th with the time of 6.93 in the preliminary race.

"I'm so proud of this freshman Davon Carroll who had a choice to go anywhere, and he chose Bowie State University. He is a humble young man that doesn't let his wins go to his head. Davon was a stellar high school athlete and this year as a freshman, he was able to perform well to not just qualify for nationals but make it to the big dance", said BSU track and field coach Michelle Latimer.

In the 200-meter dash preliminary race, Carroll was timed at 21.87 and finished 15th to end his NCAA Championship bid.

"Coach Dennison Long prepared him [Carroll] for the dance to be one of the top sixteen in Division II in the nation, but Davon fell short. He ran his slowest time out of the past three meets," said Coach Latimer. "What I liked about it was when he came to stand; he was able to critique his on 60. In the 200-meter dash, he said wow, they got out. Davon had his first-ever race on a 300-meter track, so it was a different race."

"I told Davon to forget the race, forget the defeat and let's prepare to get back here in outdoor and work towards a better outcome. If I could do something different as a head coach for this young man and anyone else on the team that qualifies for indoor is to keep them in competition mode because waiting almost three weeks to perform is hard on any athlete. I believe in prayer, patient and time will help us achieve more. I'm proud of this Davon Carroll and Coach Long," stated Latimer.

Bowie State will open its Outdoor Track and Field season March 14 at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
