Bulldogs Bring Home Second Place at CIAA Championships

SALEM, Va. – The Bowie State men's cross-country team posted their best finish since 2010 at the 2021 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Championship as the Bulldogs captured a runner-up finish in the men's 8K race held at Green Hill Park Thursday afternoon.

In 2010, BSU placed second at the conference championship. The last time the Bulldogs won the CIAA championship was in 2009.

Bowie State scored 74 points to finish second, edging out Shaw by seven points. Virginia State claimed the 2021 men's cross-country title with 47 points total while Mathew Kiptum from Shaw won the individual race with a time of 27:07.8.

Highlights

·         Sophomore Shane Massey (Lewes, DE) led the Bulldogs with a finishing time of 28:41 for fifth place individually

·         Sophomore Frederick Eiland, II (Columbia, MD) and freshman and the CIAA Men's XC Athlete of the Year Eric Thomas (Richmond, VA) came in seventh and eighth place with times of 28:53.3 and 28:55.3, respectively

·         Freshman Creedence Jackson rounded out the top-20 with an 18th place finish (31:15.1).

·         Massey, Eiland, II and Thomas were all named to the All-CIAA team that made up of top-15 finishers.
