Bulldogs Distance Medley Relay Takes Home Gold at Vince Brown Invitational

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Bowie State men's indoor track and field team set a new top-performance in the distance medley relays Sunday as the Bulldogs took home gold with a finishing time of 11:11.02 for a season-best. The first place finish marked the first this season for the Bulldogs and second straight top-four finish in the event.

Sprints/Distance

  • The quartet of Bulldogs during the Distance Medley Race featured junior Frederick Eiland, II (Columbia, MD), freshman Jahmoy Bartley (Pasadena, MD), junior Shane Massey (Lewes, DE) and sophomore Eric Thomas-Talley (Richmond, VA) that took first place in the event at 11:11.02.
  • Eiland, II earned a bronze medal in the 800m race with a time of 2:04.95. 
  • Freshman Caleb Rose (Morningside, MD) set a personal best in the 800m race with a seventh place at 2:09.08.
  • Massey grabbed fifth in the 200m dash with a time of 23.24. In the 400m dash, Massey nearly missed a bronze medal by three seconds finishing fourth overall at 51.63, setting a new personal-best.
  • Sophomore London Diggs (Portsmouth, VA) recorded a personal best and placed eighth in the 400m dash at 52.90.

Jumps/Hurdles

  • Senior Joshua Carter (Bowie, MD) placed second overall in the pole vault with a mark of 3.50m – tying his personal-best.
  • Freshman Kareem Kelsick (Upper Marlboro, MD) finished eighth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.93 – marking his second straight time this season.
  • Sophomore Ratez McLaurin (Waldorf, MD) set personal-bests in two events at the Vince Brown Invitational. He placed seventh with a leap of 6.34m in the long jump and finished fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 12.94m.

What's Next
The Bulldogs will compete in its final regular season competition the Liberty Opener in Lynchburg, Va. on Saturday, Feb. 5 before the CIAA Championships (Feb. 12-13) in Winston-Salem, N.C.
