SALEM, VA. – Junior Eric Thomas-Talley (Richmond, VA) finished fifth among 72 runners to the lead the Bowie State men's cross-country team at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Championships Thursday afternoon at Green Hill Park.
As a team, the Bulldogs finished sixth overall with 124 points. Fayetteville State claimed the CIAA championship with a total of 38 points, followed by Shaw (73) and Virginia State (102) for second and third place, respectively.
The Bulldogs Top Performers
- Thomas-Talley placed fifth overall with a finishing time of 27:36.8
- Junior Shane Massey (Lewes, DE) placed 18th (29:34.1)
- Freshman Roosevelt Elivert (Dunkirk, MD) finished in a time of 31:19.2 for 29th overall
- Junior Frederick Eiland, II (Columbia, MD) tabbed 34th (31:39.9)
The All-CIAA men's team consisted of the top 15 finishers that included Hillary Toroitch, Derrick Kipchumba, and Agel Mengich of Fayetteville State, Micah Kipruto of Virginia Union (fourth) and Thomas Talley of Bowie State (fifth). Alex Kiprono of Shaw was sixth, followed by Robert Edward Jr. of Saint Augustine's (seventh), Matthew Kiptum of Shaw (eighth), Fayetteville State's Kiptanui, Virginia State's Jalen Brownlee (10th), Virginia union's Derrick Chesire (11th), Lincoln (PA)'s Irvin Marable (12th) and Nathaniel Baker (13th), Lukas Dudziak of Shaw (14th), and Virginia State's JaPrince Gaines (15th).
