BOWIE, Md. – The Bowie State men's and women's track and field programs open the indoor campaign Friday at the Seahawk Shootout, hosted by Wagner in the Ocean Breeze Complex.
Meet: Seahawk Shootout
Location: Staten Island, NY (Ocean Breeze Park Track & Field Athletic Complex)
The Bulldogs men's squad returns 20 athletes from last year's team including junior Eric Thomas-Talley (Richmond, VA), senior Shane Massey (Lewes, DE), junior Frederick Eiland, II (Columbia, MD) and senior Joshua Carter (Bowie, MD). Carter is the CIAA reigning champion for indoor in the pole vault with a personal-best 3.45m. Thomas-Talley was top-5 last season in the 5000m (16:48.49) while Jackson, a man of many talents finished sixth in the heptathlon featuring a second place finish in the pole vault (2.75m). Bowie State finished third overall in the CIAA Championships a season ago as its quest for a conference championship begins Friday afternoon.
BSU adds nine newcomers on the men's side and seven on the women's side.
It wasn't quite the year last season for the Bulldogs women's team that finished ninth out of nine teams in the indoor conference championship. Bowie State did get highlights from sophomore Destiny Ehirim (Lanham, MD) who tabbed eighth in the 60m hurdles (9.62) and a top-10 finish from sophomore Dasani Robinson (Durham, NC) who threw a mark of 9.20m for ninth in the shot put. The Bulldogs are eager to improve upon last year's campaign for 2022-23.
The Bowie State indoor track and field programs hope to take a successful opener and build on it over the holiday break before returning to Ocean Breeze on Jan. 6.
