Bowie State Athletics Announces Restructuring of Cross Country and Track and Field Programs

Bowie, Md. – Bowie State's Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation Clyde Doughty, Jr. has announced a restructuring of the Bulldogs men's and women's cross country and track and field programs.

Michelle Redd-Latimer, who served as the head coach for the men's and women's cross-country and track and field programs in 2021-22, will not return to the programs. Redd-Latimer had been a member of the BSU coaching staff since 2004, and for the last 17 years, had been head coach.

"I wish to thank Coach Michelle Latimer for her 17 years of service building our cross-country and track and field program for men and women," added Doughty, Jr.  "Bulldog Nation wishes her the very best in all of her future endeavors."

Redd-Latimer guided Bowie State to its first conference title in 2009 and combined for a plethora of runner-up and third place finishes in both indoor and outdoor conference championships. During her tenure, Redd-Latimer has produced 27 NCAA All-Americans, three NCAA Athletes of the Year, a USTFCCCA Southeast Region Coach of the Year (2007-08), CIAA Indoor Track and Field Coach of the Year (2008-09) and CIAA Cross Country Coach of the Year (2009).

Under reorganization, Ishakeema Swain will serve as the new head men's and women's cross country coach while assistant coach Amandji Goito will serve as the liaison on an interim base for the track and field program until a new coach is hired.

A national search will begin immediately to identify Coach Redd-Latimer's successor. All inquiries should be director to Clyde Doughty, Jr.'s office at bsubulldogs.com.
