BOWIE, MD --- Bowie State head softball coach
Ed Powell announced the Bulldogs' 2024 schedule on Friday afternoon. Softball opens its season with six-game Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA)/Southern Intercolleigate Athletic Association (SIAC) Classic also known as the HBCU Softball Classic from February 16-18 in Spartanburg, S.C.
In addition to the HBCU Classic, the Bulldogs will make appearances in the Chowan Classic (Mar.1-3) and the Mount Olive Invitational (Mar.9-10). Bowie State will host Mansfield for its home opener on Feb. 24, followed by a road doubleheader at Delaware State on Feb. 28.
Coming off the Chowan Classic, the Bulldogs will return to the BSU Softball Complex for a home twinbill with West Liberty on Mar. 7. After the UMO Invitational, Bowie State will host three straight home doubleheaders against Shippensburg (Mar. 13), Millersville (Mar. 15) and Bloomsburg (Mar. 16).
The CIAA Round-Up will be held in Elizabeth City, N.C. for the second-straight season on Mar. 21-23 hosted by Elizabeth City State. The next three games for the Bulldogs will feature road tests at Virginia State (Apr. 5), Virginia Union (Apr. 6) and Washington Adventist (Apr. 11). Bowie State will then remain home for matchups against Lincoln (PA) on Apr. 14, Bluefield State (Apr. 20) and Elizabeth City State on Apr. 21. The final regular season contest will be a road series with Frostburg State on Apr. 24.
The 2024 CIAA Softball Championships is set for May 3-5 at the RF&P Park in Glen Allen, Va.
Bowie State is the defending CIAA Champions, the Bulldogs claimed the championship crown after defeating Claflin, 8-2 in a three-game series where winners took all. BSU concluded the 2023 season not only as conference champions but CIAA Regular Season Champions, CIAA Northern Division Champions capped by an overall record of 35-16, which is a new program record for most wins in a season led by Powell.
