BOWIE, MD – The Bowie State University men's and women's basketball teams will open the 2025-26 season by hosting the Bowie State Tip-Off Classic this weekend, Friday, Nov. 14 through Sunday, Nov. 16, inside A.C. Jordan Arena, home of the Kevin Durant Court.
The Bulldogs men's team will take the court first, facing Gannon University on Friday at 7 p.m. before meeting West Chester (PA) on Saturday at 3 p.m. The BSU women's team will headline Saturday's four game slate with a 7 p.m. matchup against East Stroudsburg and close out the weekend on Sunday at 3 p.m. versus Shepherd.

Clear Bag Policy
Fans will only be able to carry the following style and size bag into the arena, all of which are subject to search.
- Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC and do not exceed 12" x 6" x 12"
- One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar)
- Small clutch bags, measuring 4.5" x 6.5" with or without a handle or strap
- All other bags will not be permitted. A list of prohibited bags includes but is not limited to: purses, backpacks, drawstring bags that are not clear, briefcases, coolers, fanny packs, luggage, computer bags, camera bags, binocular cases, and diaper bags. Guests are encouraged to return unauthorized items to their vehicles.
Bowie State University cannot safeguard items that are not permitted into the arena.
Men's Basketball Preview
The Bulldogs men's basketball program enters the 2025-26 campaign under the leadership of head coach
Darrell Brooks, who begins his 17th year at the helm.
BSU returns two players from last year's squad, led by senior guard
Justin Morrisey. The Fredericks, Md., native looks to build on a strong conference campaign after appearing in all 30 games with 19 starts. Morrisey averaged 9.7 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 24 minutes per game while shooting 48.8 percent from the field, 37.4 percent from three-point range and 69.3 percent from the free-throw line. He also contributed 42 steals, six blocks and 88 total rebounds on the season.
A key newcomer to watch is junior guard
Jailin Landis, a transfer from Prince George's Community College. The District Heights, Md., native started all 22 games last season, averaging 17.2 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 32.8 minutes per contest while shooting 45.6 percent from the field.
The Bulldogs will look to blend veteran leadership with new talent as they set eyes on Gannon for their season opener.
Women's Basketball Preview
The BSU women's basketball team enters the 2025-26 season looking to build on its semifinal run in last year's CIAA Tournament. Under the leadership of head coach
Shadae Swan, who begins her 11th season at the helm, the Bulldogs return nine student-athletes from their 2024-25 postseason squad.
Leading the charge is senior guard
Mia Smith, a preseason All-CIAA selection and the 2025 CIAA Quarterfinals Food Lion MVP. The Clarksburg, Md., native is coming off an impressive junior campaign in which she appeared in 29 games, starting 27. Smith averaged 11.2 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game while shooting 37.4 percent from the field. She also tallied 42 steals, 14 blocks and recorded a career-high 31 points at Virginia State in January 2025.
Smith will be joined by fellow returner
Kristin Sterling, who provides a strong defensive presence after collecting 20 steals and 22 blocks during the 2024-25 season.
A key newcomer to watch is senior guard
Hannah Wilkerson, a transfer from Clarion University. The versatile scorer appeared in 28 games with two starts as a junior, totaling 210 points, 87 rebounds and 22 assists. Wilkerson shot an efficient 44.1 percent from the field while adding 18 steals and nine blocks. She ranked second and 11th in the PSAC for most field goals made in a game last season, highlighted by performances of 30 points (13-of-21) against Shippensburg and 28 points (12-of-19) versus Kutztown.
The Bulldogs aim to carry last year's postseason momentum into the 2025-26 campaign as they tip off their season Saturday night.
