WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Bowie State men's and women's track and field team delivered several standout performances the 2025 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Indoor Track and Field Championships at the JDL Fast Track, highlighted by Yassine Kamara's gold medal-winning throw in the shot put on Monday afternoon.
Collectively, the Bulldogs tabbed five podium appearances as a team as the Bulldog men accounted for 37.5 points and a seventh place finish overall while the Bulldog women finished seventh with a total of 15 points. The Lady Broncos of Fayetteville State earned its fifth-straight CIAA championship with a total of 150 points while Winston-Salem State (135) and Claflin (90) rounded out the top-3 spots for the women's championship. Meanwhile, for the third year in a row, the Panthers of Claflin claimed the conference championship on the men's side with a total of 138.5 points, followed by Virginia Union (124) and Virginia State (103).
Sprints
Marlin Newsome, Jr. led the way with an impressive third-place finish in the 200-meter dash, clocking in at 22.11 seconds. The freshman amplified his remarkable speed and strong presence in the competition, securing a spot on the podium among some of the top sprinters in the CIAA. In the 60-meter hurdles, senior Lorenzo Pelham impressed with a third-place finish, showcasing his skill and consistency in the event at 7.93 seconds. Pelham's performance marked the fourth podium appearance for the Bulldogs.
In the 60-meter dash, Jaiden Jarrett finished fourth with a time of 6.88 seconds, capping off his strong indoor season with a solid performance that earned him a top four finish. Jarrett's time was a key highlight for the Bulldogs in the sprint events. The 4x400-meter relay team made up of Dominic Boston, Benick Akeh, Markell Yarborough and Aidan Geron also had a strong display, finishing in third place with a time of 3:23.90.
Jumps
In the high jump, sophomore Tareik Jackson cleared 1.83 meters, securing a fifth-place finish. Jackson's performance in the field events added valuable points to the team's overall tally.
Throws
The Bulldogs throwers have been consistent all season for Bowie State in the shot put competition. CIAA Women's Indoor Field Player of the Year, Yassine Kamara, dominated the event, securing first place finish with an impressive throw of 13.99 meters, setting the tone for the Bulldogs early.
Jazmyne McGirt also delivered a solid effort, finishing fifth with a best mark of 11.61 meters while on the men's side, sophomore Jaeden Warner put on an outstanding routine, earning second place with a throw of 15.04 meters. His notable showing established him as one of the top competitors in the event as well as a podium appearance.
