CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- Six Bowie State softball players earned All-Conference honors as the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) office unveiled the All-CIAA teams Wednesday night. Among the highlights, Lindsey George was named CIAA Player of the Year, while head coach Ed Powell earned CIAA Coach of the Year for leading the Bulldogs through an undefeated conference season.
Jayla Hill, Coreena Dunham, Taylor Dawkins, Mikayla Amos, Mykhl Young, and Ja'chelle Mosley all earned All-CIAA recognition. Hill, Dunham, and Dawkins were all named First Team All-CIAA , while Dawkins and Amos received Second Team honors. Additionally, Amos, Young, and Mosley were selected to the All-CIAA Rookie Team.
Ed Powell – CIAA Coach of the Year
In his fifth season at the helm, Powell led the Bulldogs to an undefeated season in CIAA play with an impressive 15-0 record and 23-17 overall stamp for the 2025 season. This year also marks a major milestone for Powell, as he reached his 100th career win with a victory over Elizabeth City State. Over the course of his tenure, Powell has compiled a 103-102 overall record (.502) and an outstanding 49-13 mark in CIAA competition.
The upward trajectory of the program began in 2022, Powell's third season, when he led the Bulldogs to their first winning record under his guidance at 24-20-1. Since then, Bowie State has remained in the championship conversation year after year, consistently contending for both conference and division titles. Now in 2025, the Bulldogs are on pace to repeat as CIAA champions for the third consecutive season — a feat not accomplished since the 2008-2009 era for BSU softball.
Coach Powell's leadership has generated remarkable growth within the program, elevating the Bulldogs into one of the CIAA's elite programs. His commitment, strategic vision, and relentless pursuit of excellence have laid a foundation for sustained success. The award is the first for Powell in his tenure with the Bulldogs and second for the Bowie State softball program since 2010 when Darrell Toney won the award.
