Bulldogs Make Historic Run to CIAA Championship, Finish Runner-Up

MECHANICSVILLE, VA — The Bowie State women's bowling team (35-42, 25-23 CIAA) delivered an exceptional performance at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Women's Bowling Championship, finishing as tournament runner-up after a weekend filled with upsets and momentum-building victories at Bowlero Bowling Center in Mechanicsville, Virginia.

The Bulldogs opened championship play in strong fashion, securing a 2-0 win over No. 5 seed Shaw University. All-CIAA honoree Arianna Clayton led the charge with a team-high 186 pinfalls, setting the tone early for Bowie State.

In the second round of the winner's bracket, the Bulldogs faced top-seeded Fayetteville State but fell 0-2, sending them into the elimination bracket.

BSU responded with resilience on day two, beginning with a 2-1 victory over No. 3 seed Livingstone College. Kamryn Smith paced the Bulldogs with a game-high 188 pinfalls. The Bulldogs continued their surge with a 2-1 Mega Match win over No. 2 seed Virginia State, earning back-to-back victories over higher-seeded opponents to advance to the semifinals of the loser's bracket.

On day three, Bowie State maintained its momentum with a commanding 2-0 sweep of No. 6 seed Elizabeth City State, punching its ticket to the CIAA championship match for the first time under head coach Tubar Thompson.

In the championship match, the Bulldogs faced No. 1 seed Fayetteville State in a competitive battle marked by consistent strikes and spares. Despite a strong effort, Bowie State fell 4-2 as the Broncos pulled away to secure the CIAA Women's Bowling Championship title.
