Bowie State Welcomes Jeri Ingram as Associate Head Coach for Women’s Tennis

BOWIE, MD — The Department of Athletics at Bowie State University is pleased to announce the hiring of Jeri Ingram as the Associate Head Coach for the Bowie State women's tennis program. Ingram joined the Bulldogs' staff in March 2026 and brings extensive experience as a former professional player, collegiate standout, and coach.

"We are excited to welcome Jeri Ingram to our women's tennis staff," said head coach Todd Byrom. "Jeri brings experience, knowledge, and passion for the game that will help our future tennis student-athletes reach their maximum potential on and off the court. Bowie State could not have made a better choice."

A native of Washington, D.C., Ingram began her tennis career in Montgomery County, Md., where she attended Springbrook High School and compiled a perfect 116-0 record, becoming the first undefeated tennis athlete in school history. Her record of four consecutive years without a loss still stands today.

Ingram continued her playing career at the University of Maryland on a full athletic scholarship, where she played No. 1 singles for the Terrapins. During her collegiate career, she went undefeated in Atlantic Coast Conference play, earned All-ACC honors, and was named the team's Most Valuable Player.

Following college, Ingram competed professionally on the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Tour for eight years, reaching a career-high world ranking of No. 118. She captured six International Tennis Federation (ITF) titles and competed in the U.S. Open for eight consecutive years, in addition to appearances at the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon.

"I am thrilled and honored to join Bowie State University as Associate Head Women's Tennis Coach," Ingram said. "I look forward to the team's development and contributing my knowledge toward their success. I know this role will challenge and grow me as a coach at the collegiate level, and ultimately, we will all win together."

Ingram currently serves as the founder and executive director of the Metropolitan Tennis & Education Group (MTEG), a nonprofit organization that provides tennis and educational programming for youth throughout Maryland and Washington, D.C.

Ingram earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from American University's Kogod School of Business. Her coaching experience includes positions at Georgetown University as an assistant coach, Saint John's College High School as head coach, Bullis School as an assistant coach, and several tennis development programs across the region.

In addition to her coaching career, Ingram remains active in the national tennis community, serving in leadership roles across multiple United States Tennis Association boards and committees. She also co-created "Grand Slamma", a product line that celebrates Black experiences in the sport of tennis while highlighting and amplifying Black talent in the game.
