(ELIZABETH CITY, N.C.) The Bowie State University bowling team opened its 2008-2009 season with a strong showing and placed second overall with a 10-2 won-loss record over the weekend.
The event was hosted and won by Elizabeth City State University (24 points) followed by Bowie State (18 points), Virginia State University (12 points), St. Paul's College (6 points) and Virginia Union University (0 points). Bowie State's Lady Bulldogs went a perfect 5-0 in Baker Match Total Pins, racking up 4,327 Total Pins.
Freshman Kim Boyer (Millersville, MD, Old Mill) led the charge with a 202.2 average (1,820 total pins) and had scores of 201, 193, 215, 173, 205, 179, 243, 233 and 178. Sophomore Rebecca Frusciante (Mahopac, NY, Mahopac) had the second highest average (199.2) and rolled games of 203, 183, 190, 215, 194, 203, 194, 201 and 210. Freshman Danielle Martin (Windsor Mill, MD, Oakland Mills) tallied 1,184 total pins over the three-day event (169.1 average) and sophomore Dominique Carroll (Bowie, MD, Bowie) along with freshman Kathren Hayward (Edgewater, MD, South River) accounted for 999 and 1,277 total pins respectively. Freshmen Ashley Bordonaro (Upper Marlboro, MD, Largo) and Asola Ashiru (Lanham, MD, Parkdale) combined for 630 total pins to round out Bowie State's scoring.
The Lady Bulldogs return to the lanes – Friday, November 21st, competing in the Eastern Shore Hawk Classic hosted by the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Millsboro, Delaware.
