(CHESAPEAKE, Va.) The Bowie State University bowling team had a good showing this past Saturday and Sunday in the Hampton Roads Collegiate Bowling Invitational, co-hosted by Hampton University and Norfolk State University.
The Lady Bulldogs went 2-3 for the weekend, finishing third overall and went 2-4 in Baker match play.
On Saturday, Bowie State opened total pinfall action with an 849-835 victory over the Laday Pirates of Hampton and followed that up with a 940-803 win against Long Island University. The Lady Bulldogs then fell 871-946 to Norfolk State, 723-774 to conference foe St. Paul's College and 799-865 to St. Peters College.
Bowie State rolled up 4,182 total pins, averaging 836.40 per match. Norfolk State led the field in total pinfall with 4,616, averaging of 923.2 per match.
Senior
Verra Diggs (Fort Washington, MD, Oxon Hill, Hampton Univ.) led the Lady Bulldogs with a 972 series, rolling a high-game of 220 in the opening game against Hampton. Diggs concluded the weekend with a 194.40 average and was named to the All-Invitational Team.
Senior
Rebecca Frusciante (Mahopac, NY, Mahopac) had 877 total pins and averaged 175.40, putting her 10th overall.
Seniors
Dominique Carroll (Bowie, MD, Bowie) and
Tycora Brown (Pocomoke City, MD, Pocomoke) finished the event 868 and 736 total pins respectively on Saturday.
Sunday's Baker match play action saw Bowie State split with St. Paul's, dropped two to Long Island and came up short against Hampton and St. Peter's.
Bowie State returns to play November 5-7 in their first conference event of the season, hosted by St. Paul's College.
