TRACK AND FIELD PARTICIPATES IN FINAL MEET BEFORE CHAMPIONSHIPS

JOHNSON C. SMITH INVITATIONAL RESULTS

(CHARLOTTE, N.C.)  There were several individual highlights worth mentioning in Bowie State University's final outdoor meet before the conference championships.  The Lady Bulldogs were led by John'Ne Allen Davis and Lakesha Carney (Hampton, VA, Denbigh) while William Bailey, Jamin Gallman (Baltimore, MD, Baltimore Polytechnic) and Collen Cumberbatch paced the Bulldogs.

Carney won the the women's Shot Put (12.46m / 40-10.50) and the Discus Throw (41.94m / 137-07).  Allen- Davis placed fifth in the 200 Meter Dash (25.40) and eighth in the 100 Meter Dash (12.52).  Shayla Davis (Gaithersburg, MD, Watkins Mill) also had a top five finish, placing fifth in the 400 Meter Dash (57.13).  Alyce Harrell finished second in the women's Javelin (27.55m / 90-5) and Kayla Campbell was third in the Shot Put, going 12.24m / 40-02.00).  Brandy Peat (Newport News, VA, Denbigh) placed fourth and sixth respectively in the women's Shot Put (12.16m / 39-10.75) and Discus Throw (32.57m / 106-10).

The BSU women's 4x100 Meter Relay team of Allen-Davis, Davis, Sherreka Jackson (Upper Marlboro, MD, Charles H. Flowers) and Michelle Palmer (Fort Washington, MD, Oxon Hill) placed fourth overall with a time of 48.79.  Bowie State's "B" team (Brieana Harrison (Waldorf, MD, North Point), Symone O'Connor (Somerset, NJ, Franklin), Nicole Robinson (Columbia, MD, Atholton) and Akia Wesley (Upper Marlboro, MD, Walter Johnson) finished eighth in the 4x100.

Jasmine Butler (Upper Marlboro, MD, Charles H. Flowers), Davis, Shamika Patton (Frederick, MD, Frederick) and Indya Price made up the Bowie State 4x400 Meter Relay team and finished fourth with a time of 3:53.46.

Gallman and Alonzo Williams recorded fourth place finishes in the men's 800 Meter Run and 110 Meter Hurdles respectively.  Gallman crossed the finish line with a time of 1:53.44 and Williams broke the tape with a time of 14.86.

Bowie State captured third in the men's 4x100 Meter Relay (Bailey, Ridwan Cole (Bowie, MD, Bladensburg), Santiato Ennis, and Mark Small), clocking in with a time of 42.75.

Bailey won the men's Long Jump with a leap of 7.26m (23-10.00). Cumberbatch also had a first place finish, winning the men's Shot Put with a throw of 14.44m (47-04.50) and had another top five finish, placing third in the Discus Throw (37.90m / 124.04).

The Bowie State women and men's next event will be the CIAA Championships, Friday (April 16) and Saturday April 17) in Petersburg (Va.) hosted by Virginia State University.
