(BOWIE, Md.) Junior Chanita Jordan (Philadelphia, PA, University City, North Carolina State) scored a season/career-high 17 points but Ransheda Jennings poured in a game-high 27 points in Chowan's 55-45 victory over Bowie State. The loss drops the BSU Lady Bulldogs record to 7-7 overall, 3-4 in the CIAA and 1-0 in the all important Northern Division. With the win, the Hawks improve to 6-8 overall and 3-3 in the CIAA.

Bowie State jumped out to an early 6-0 lead, holding the Hawks without a point until the 16:27 mark of the first half. Shortly after, the Hawks found their groove and went on a 10-0 run. While the offense was certainly clicking, the Chowan defense came to life, keeping the Lady Bulldogs off the scoreboard for over nine minutes. The teams traded baskets late in the first half before Chowan held a slim 23-19 advantage at the half.

Bowie State came out for the second half on fire, hitting their first five shots en route to an early six point lead. Once again, however, the Hawks buckled down and made a run of their own, gaining the lead back at the 10:28 mark of the second half. Throughout the majority of the half, the teams kept the score close. The game seemed up in the air as Chowan held a 41-40 advantage with just under six minutes remaining. Sparked by a pair of Jennings' buckets, the Hawks ended the game on a 14-5 run. Chowan converted on 10-11 free throws down the stretch, helping seal the road victory.

Chowan's Talaya Lynch chipped in with eight points and four rebounds and Brittany Nicholson added seven points and five rebounds.

BSU's Jordan also had an effective night at the line, hitting 7-9 free throws to go along with six rebounds. The Lady Bulldogs out-rebounded the Hawks 41-31, but committed 28 turnovers in the loss.

Bowie State returns to action – Monday (January 24th) hosting the Lady Vikings of Elizabeth City State at 5:30 pm.
