(RICHMOND, Va.) The Lady Bulldogs bowling team wrapped up the weekend with a second place finish at CIAA Event No. 2 hosted by Virginia Union University. Bowie State ended the three day event with a total pin count of 11,201 and a 11-4 overall record.
DAY-BY-DAY RESULTS
Bowie State opened the event on Friday (1/27) with back-to-back wins over Chowan University (712-598) and Lincoln University of Pennsylvania (829-625). Virginia State University edged the Lady Bulldogs 774-772 in match three, but BSU rebounded with 747-662 victory over Virginia Union University. Bowie State lost its final Friday match, coming up just short to Elizabeth City State University (847-812).
Chowan avenged Friday's loss to Bowie State, squeezing by the Lady Bulldogs 712-705 in BSU's first match on Saturday (1/28) morning. Bowie State took down Lincoln (PA) 812-704 and Virginia State 817-740 in match two and three on Saturday. Virginia Union defeated Bowie State 800-749, but the BSU Lady Bulldogs knocked off Elizabeth City State 879-872 to close out day two.
Sunday's (1/29) featured Baker System Scoring and the Lady Bulldogs went undefeated (5-0), claiming victories over Elizabeth City State (676-551), Virginia Union (676-553), Virginia State (748-632), Lincoln (677-529) and Chowan (587-543).
Elizabeth City State took first place with 11721 total pins (13-2 record), followed Bowie State and Virginia State was third with 10,723 total pins (8-7 record). Chowan came in fourth with 9,771 total pins (7-4 record), Virginia Union was fifth with 10,071 total pins (10-5 record) and Lincoln (PA) rounded out the Northern Division field of six with 9,029 total pins (0-15 record.
In terms of individual scores, freshmen
Ambrianna Bankston Ashanti Moore and
Shayla Lightfoot were Bowie State's top finishers. Bankston led all Lady Bulldog bowlers with an average of 165.50. Moore and Lightfoot averaged 161.80 and 161.60 respectively. Moore also recorded the highest Lady Bulldogs game score, rolling a 233. Junior transfer
Quinn Armstrong wrapped up the weekend with a 162.33 average, that included personal high-games of 211 and 210. Sophomore
Cherelle Coombs averaged 142.33 over nine games over the weekend.
Bowie State returns to the lanes February 10-12 at the CIAA Round-Up hosted by Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC.
