Bowling Places First in Division at CIAA North/South Event #1

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Bowie State University women's bowling placed first in the CIAA Northern Division at the conference's North/South Event #1 at B&B Bowling Lanes over the weekend.
 
The Bulldogs knocked down 8,187 pins and posted an 11-1 record in the three-day tournament. Bowie State's only loss of the weekend occurred in their opening match versus Virginia Union, falling to the Lady Panthers 840-825. The Bulldogs went on to knock off Chowan (921-592), Elizabeth City State (774-562) and Virginia State (760-725) to end day one.
 
Bowie State ran the table on day two of traditional play, defeating Chowan (868-605), Virginia Union (812-756), Virginia State (836-664) and Elizabeth City State (827-696).
 
Sunday's matches were under Baker System Scoring and Bowie Sate had little trouble sitting down Virginia Union (816-772), Chowan (855-624), Elizabeth City State (783-599) and Virginia State (886-796) to close out the weekend.
 
Virginia Union University was second with 7,781 total pins and a 9-3 mark, and Virginia State University placed third with 7,463 total pins and a 7-5 record. Elizabeth City State University finished fourth in the North with 6,134 total pins and a 3-9 record and Chowan University rounded out the Northern Division was a fifth place finish with 5,941 total pins and a 0-12 mark.
 
Junior Diamond Carter (Buffalo, N.Y.) rolled the highest game of all bowlers with a 279 and recorded the Northern Division's average of 197.1 Senior Shannon Weaver (Fort Washington, Md.) ranked second on the team in average (179.0) while sophomore Be'Ana Jones (Odenton, Md.) was third with a 197.1. Senior Chantel Farlow (Columbia, Md.) averaged 150.9 and junior NaVaughn Barnes (Clarksburg, Md.) finished the weekend with a 136.5 average. Sophomore Nachelle Daniels (District Heights, Md.) competed in one match and rolled a 112.
 
Fayetteville State University finished first overall in the South with 9,105 total pins.
 
The Bulldogs will compete again in the CIAA Northern-Southern Divisional Event II in Richmond, Va., which will be held Jan. 26-28, 2018.
