RALEIGH, N.C. – The defending CIAA Champions of Bowie State University finished second at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Northern Divisional (CIAA Event II) bowling competition on Jan. 25-27 at the Pleasant Valley Lanes and were led by
Cayla Snowden (Parkville, Md.).
Snowden ranked first among the individual bowlers with a 10-game average of 188.7, including two high-games of 205.
As a team, Bowie State completed the weekend with a 10-2 overall record, claiming six team wins and four Baker wins to go along with 11,868 total pins behind Virginia State who recorded an 11-1 record.
The Bulldogs opened day one with a resounding 882-536 victory over Elizabeth City State. Bowie State lost its second match of the day, falling to Virginia State by a score of 855-784 but wrapped up Friday's (1/25) competition with wins over Virginia Union (767-684) and Chowan (779-605). Saturday's competition began with back-to-back victories against Chowan (792-604) and Virginia Union (870-670) but came up short in match three, dropping a tough 859-842 decision to Virginia State. Bowie State bounced back from the setback and handled Elizabeth City State 745-548 to finish Saturday's (1/26) play.
In Sunday's (1/27) Baker games, Bowie State swept the competition, defeating Elizabeth City State (783-517), Virginia State (758-748), Virginia Union (828-660) and Chowan (693-610).
Bowie State returns to action on Feb. 8-10 at the CIAA Round-Up hosted by Elizabeth City State.
