BOWIE, Md. – Day 1 of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Outdoor Track and Field Championship was highlighted by Creedence Jackson's (Lanham, MD) first place finish in the pole vault for the Bowie State track and field team Friday afternoon from the BSU Track and Field Complex.

Notable Highlights
- Jackson was the only athlete to place in the pole vault, posting a mark 2.80m – his first individual win in his freshman campaign.
- Kenny Amaya (Bladensburg, MD) grabbed bronze in the shot put with a throw of 14.61m while Movado Gray (Lanham, MD) placed seventh at 13.14m, Alonzo Fluellen (Phenix City, MD) finished 11th overall (11.54m) and Isa McDonald (Greenbelt, MD) tabbed 13th overall at 10.38m.
- Ratez McLaurin (Waldorf, MD) grabbed eighth with a jump of 6.12m in the long jump.
- Eric Thomas-Talley (Richmond, VA), Shane Massey (Lewes, DE) and Frederick Eiland, II (Columbia, MD) all finished fifth (4:20.26), sixth (4:23.30) and seventh (4.29.33), respectively in the in the 1500m race.
- Additionally, Thaddeus Green (Accokeek, MD) placed ninth (4:45.67) in the 1500m race.
- Kareem Kelsick (Upper Marlboro, MD) qualified for finals in the 400 hurdles with finishing time of 1:02.49 for eighth in the preliminaries.
- Massey qualified for the finals in the 800m race, after posting a time of 1:57.49 in the preliminary heat.
VSU leads the men's standings with 60 points followed by Bowie State with 28 points and Johnson C. Smith with 27 after five events.
The championship will conclude on Saturday, May 7 with the field events beginning at 9 a.m., followed by the running events at 1 p.m.
