HOWELL, N.J. — Bowie State women's bowling team (17-18) wrapped up a three-day showing at the Garden State Classic over the weekend, finishing 2–11 overall across a mix of Baker and traditional formats hosted by Monmouth University.
The Bulldogs opened the tournament Friday in the Format 2 Baker system (total pinfall), going 1–5. BSU dropped matches to Bryant (870–770), Morgan State (839–750), Mount St. Mary's (953–840), Adelphi (803–743), and Holy Family in the first half of a doubleheader (853–682). The Bulldogs closed the day on a high note, edging Holy Family in the rematch, 763–759, to secure their first win of the weekend.
On Saturday in the traditional format, Bowie State went winless, falling to Long Island University (837–795), Felician (1052–720), Fairleigh Dickinson (1000–838) and Dominican (N.Y.) (790–744). Despite the setbacks, BSU posted two standout individual performances with Arianna Clayton rolling a team-high 228 in game three against FDU, while Janaye Monroe followed with a 209 in game four against Dominican.
The Bulldogs closed the tournament Sunday in Format 3 Baker play, finishing 1–2. BSU earned an 860–814 victory over Holy Family, before dropping its final two matches to host Monmouth (905–746) and Molloy (846–819).
