Fort Meade, MD -- The Bowie State University women's bowling team competed in the 2025 James Brown Invitational, hosted by Morgan State University, finishing in seventh place amongst a competitive field of programs. The Bulldogs stand 23-18 overall after this weekend matches.
The Bulldogs' lone win came in a traditional match against Howard University, where they delivered one of their best performances of the tournament. Bowie State put together a strong team effort, knocking down 912 total pins to top Howard, who finished with 817 pins. Leading the charge was senior TaVera Johnson, who posted a standout 234-pin game, one of the highest individual scores of the tournament. Senior Janaye Monroe and freshman Arianna Clayton also had strong contributions, keeping Bowie State ahead throughout the match
Johnson led the Bulldogs with an impressive individual showing, rolling a five-game total of 929 pins, averaging 185.8 per game. Monroe (841 total pins, 168.2 avg.) and Clayton (806 total pins, 161.2 avg.) also contributed solid performances.
