BOWIE, MD – The Bowie State University women's bowling team hosted the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Event III at the Crofton Bowling Centre in Crofton, Md., this past weekend. The Bulldogs dominated the three-day event with a perfect 12-0 record, improving their overall season mark to 43-12 and 42-3 CIAA in the league.
How It Happened
The Bulldogs started strong on opening day, punching in a 5-0 mark that featured victories over Elizabeth City State twice (789-579, 730-582), Virginia Union twice (832-742, 836-692), and Virginia State (765-688). Senior TaVera Johnson delivered standout performances, rolling two impressive 189 games against Virginia State and Virginia Union.
Bowie State continued its momentum on day two, securing wins against Virginia State (861-674, 765-558), Virginia Union (926-773), and Elizabeth City State (703-682). Senior Janaye Monroe led the Bulldogs with the highest pinfall of the day, scoring 238 in the first game.
During Baker matches, the Bulldogs remained unstoppable, earning three consecutive victories. They edged Elizabeth City State (729-700), followed by a trample over Virginia State (818-672), highlighted by a 182-game to close out the weekend with an 808-735 win over Virginia Union.
Individual Accolades
- Monroe earned the Highest Game Average Award (238).
- Johnson claimed the Highest Average Award (186).
- Arianna Clayton received the Newcomer Highest Average Award (156).
