MECHANICSVILLE, VA --- The Bowie State women's bowling team saw its 2024-25 campaign come to an end at the CIAA Championship, falling to Virginia Union in double elimination on Saturday at Bowlero Lanes. The Bulldogs wrapped up the season with a strong 47-13 overall record.
How It Happened
The Bulldogs dominated championship day one, going 4-0 in individual play. Bowie State secured victories over Virginia State (884-672), Elizabeth City State (740-689), Livingstone (780-635), and Johnson C. Smith (805-596). BSU ended the day with a 4-2 win over Virginia State, keeping their spot in the winner's bracket.
BSU suffered a 4-0 setback to Virginia Union in the second round. The Bulldogs rebounded in the loser's bracket, sweeping Virginia State 4-0 and securing a 4-2 win over Shaw to stay in contention. However, they faced Virginia Union again after the Lady Panthers dropped to the loser's bracket following a 4-1 loss to Fayetteville State. In the rematch, Virginia Union defeated Bowie State 4-2, advancing to the championship match against Fayetteville State, who went on to claim its third consecutive conference title with a 4-1 victory.
TaVera Johnson and Janaye Monroe earned All-Tournament Team honors.
