CHARLOTTE, N.C. –Bowie State women's volleyball student-athlete Nina Edwards has been voted as the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday morning. This is Edwards' first CIAA weekly honor of the 2025 season.

The junior anchored the Bulldogs' front line in a four-match stretch that included a five-set battle with West Chester and three contests at the Eckerd Tournament in Florida. She finished the week with 32 kills, 13 total blocks (three solo, 10 assists), and a .492 hitting percentage, consistently providing a strong presence at the net on both sides of the floor.

Her top performance came against West Chester, where she recorded 14 kills on .545 hitting with seven blocks. The Matthews, N.C., native added nine kills and six blocks in Bowie State's four-set win over Saint Leo in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Bowie State returns to action on Thursday, Sept 25, when the Bulldogs travel to face Virginia State at 6 pm inside the VSU Multipurpose Center in Ettrick, Va.
