In 1993 earned a Bachelor of Science in Sociology/Criminal Justice and in 1995 a Master of
Education in Guidance and Counseling, both from Bowie State University. Currently, John serves as the Assistant Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator at Morgan State University.

John’s athletic career began in 1989. He was a member of Bowie State’s CIAA conference champion team in 1989, he holds the record for Most Tackles in a season with 133 in 1992, All-Rookie Team in 1989 and Second Team ALL-CIAA in 1992.

Community Service includes serving as Youth Advocate, mentoring at risk youth. As the Head Football Coach at Fort Valley State University, John served as the President of the SIAC Coaches Association and a member of the Division II Southeast Regional Advisory Committee for Football. John’s memberships and honors also include the American Football Coaches Association and the Black Coaches Association. In 2011, John was chosen as a Participant in the NCAA Expert Forum, and in 2006 he participated in the NCAA Advance Coaches Academy.

A few of the his career highlights at Bowie State University include, while working as the Defensive Coordinator at Bowie State University the Bulldogs ranked 1st in the nation in pass efficiency defense, 6th in total defense and 10th in scoring defense in 2001, in 2002 they ranked second in the nation in total defense and 5th in scoring defense. Another career highlight includes coaching the 2001 & 2002 All-CIAA defensive first team honoree, Charles Alston. Alston was honored by the NCAA Hall of Fame for being the only player in NCAA history to play in a football and basketball game on the same day.

John is married to the former Tisa Sims and father of three. John is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
